About Me

I have done a lot of things in my life and have also worked in many different jobs to make a living and to experience life. This blog is just some of my musings, sometimes funny, sometimes inspirational, sometimes sad, sometimes angry, sometimes simple but all the time, it's just me.

Postcards from the Past

While clearing up some old pictures and film negatives (yes, before digital camera's existed), it brought back a lot of memories.

One thing is for sure, wifey and I have grown older gracefully. We both look better than we did 15 - 25 years ago ... at least that is my opinion.

While digging through and sorting through stuff, I came across 2 postcards from my past.

Circa 1989 - I was 20 years old and had just gone to US for studies and received a postcard from a friend. The other one is either a postcard I bought or wifey bought - circa around 1989 too I believe and cost 35 cents.

The card I bought has the following wordings:-

This life is yours.

Take the power
to choose what
you want to do
and do it well.

Take the power
to love what you
want in life
and love it honestly.

Take the power
to walk in the forest
and be a part of nature.

Take the power
to control your own life.

No one else can do it
for you.

Take the power to
make your life happy.

Wow, how appropriate and how fast we forget. These simple words, yet we forget, and we relinquish the power we have, and we become unhappy in life.

The other card send by a close friend at that time. As friends go, sometimes people drift apart.

It was a tick card where she wrote:-

"Dear Nilesh, I'm sending you this card because: I love you; I miss you; You're my friend; The wording is nice."

Then she wrote, "I hope the words would encourage you as it did me when someone else dedicated it to me when I was going through a really though time before in '87. Just remember that I'm thinking and worrying about you back here in Malaysia. Love, xxxxx. 24 January, 1989".

Okay, don't get any wild ideas, xxxxx was not my girlfriend, she was a good friend at that time. I believe my brother was trying to go for her but I don't think that really officially worked out in anyways but I could be wrong as I was just a geeky 19 year old when we met.

The words on the postcard, coincidentally, were the same which my classmates just a couple of years earlier, when I was 16, had dedicated this to a great trainee teacher who was a little emotional and on verge of quitting. I am sure many of us have seen before:

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit -
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won if he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learned too late when the night came
down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, -
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

Okay, so some of the words are a little bit cheesy but again, oh so appropriate.

A blast from the past.

Take care and be well.

Living in the Present

One day at a time,
This is enough.
Do not look back and grieve over the past.
For it is gone. . .
And do not be troubled about the future.
For it has not yet come.
Live in the present, and make it so beautiful.
That it will be worth remembering.
